I took two packs of pills in a row to prevent having my period for an event. But I'm only starting the 3rd week of the second pack, and i've been bleeding for a week now. It's not heavy, but it's still annoying. When will this stop? And will I still get my normal period? Please help! My prom is coming up and I want it to stop by then.Oral contraceptive questions?
"Skipping" a period is not an easy thing to do with oral contraceptives. It works best if you have taken the pills for at least 3 months prior and are taking a monophasic(all pills have the same dose of hormones) pill. There's a special order you have to take the pills in if you are taking a tri-phasic pill like Ortho Tri-Cyclen. If you are bleeding now, chances are you may bleed til you quit taking the pill. You will probably bleed into your "off" week as well, when you get your "period". If your prom is more than a week away, you might try to take a week off of the pill, and have your regular period, then start a new pack afterwards--that should stop the bleeding. Remember breakthrough bleeding means you are less protected from pregnancy, and this would also be true if you cut this pill pack short---so be careful and use back-up protection if you are sexually active. Hope everything works out, next time talk to your doc before switching up the BC routine. Good luck :)
The most likely time you will stop bleeding is when you start a new pack of pills. However, there's no guarantee. By trying to "skip" a period, you've messed up the hormonal routine that your body was used to, and now it's going to have to get back in that routine all over again. There's no way to say when the bleeding will stop. Just give it time.
contact your doctor or your pharmacist by phone and they should have the answers you need if the MD isn't available they will have a nurse available- call
